Free Handwriting Recognition on Mobile Device at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona - 2015 March 2-6

As a partner of Qualcomm we presented the first On-Device Offline-Handwriting Recognition solution at the Machine Learning booth at Qualcomm. We gained a lot of attention every day beeing busy from dusk till dawn presenting and testing the demo together with our visitors. Most of our visitors tested their own handwritings and have been excited about the results!

A short video about our demonstration at the Qualcomm booth you find here.

The World Champions in Handwriting Recognition - 2014 Sept

4th September 2014: A collaborative team from the Computational Intelligence Technology Lab (CITlab) at the Institute for Mathematics, University of Rostock and PLANET Intelligent Systems GmbH located in Raben Steinfeld has just won, in an international conference, this year's crown for Handwriting Recognition. In the most significant and largest Conference about handwriting recognition of this year, the 14th International Congress on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (ICFHR), the worldwide market leader for documentation of Genealogical Research, the American firm Ancestry, advertised several 'Competitions'. The goal in the 'Competitions' was to read several data columns in the almost one hundred year old, handwritten documents and consequently, to make them searchable. Besides reputation and honour, there were also various progressive 4-5 digit US-Dollar figures to win. In the last three years, the team from Mecklenburg worked long and closely together, however intensively within the context of Technology and Research promotion in the State of MV. So the participants of the international competition could prove their performance capabilities.

As the only team, it took all sections of the 5 advertised categories and quickly won all! An interesting field of application is the Geneological Research. Here several hundred year old church books and documents have to be read, in order to make them available for research in a database. The difficulty lies in that these often, in particular, mostly heavily aged documents have very little structure and rarely look alike, that every writer has his or her own style and the writing, facing, and paper structure is very different after a hundred years.

Welf Wustlich, Director of Research and Development of PLANET, said to this end: "We are currently leading in the area of an intelligent, learning systems of Artificial Intelligence and would also like to continue to extend this lead. The Handwriting Recognition is outstandingly suitable for continued development of the technology and to prove the capabilities of our systems."

"Now our focus is directed on better and more robust systems, that also can run on mobile devices such as cellphones and tablets", so Welf Wustlich continued.  "We want to create systems that help users like a good assistant, for example, multi-language text translation and one day, even, to read aloud".

The PLANET IS, participates in the exhibition Post-Expo in Stockholm - 2014 Sept

At the PostExpo 2014in Stockholm Planet Intelligent Systems will showcase its innovative neural network based ICR solution ArgusAddress for Letters, Flats and Parcels. It is based on a reading engine that recently outperformed competitors at an international reading contest of historical handwritten documents. The software is a versatile data capturing tool that can easily be adapted to read other languages and different character sets such as Korean, Japanese, Chinese or Sanskrit.

Planet Intelligent Systems is a leading developer of OCR/ICR technology for text and document analysis.  Our, passion is to advance machine recognition to previously unmatched performance levels and difficult scenarios.  Our latest OCR engine release combines Planet’s years of development experience with the most up to date academic research in neural network technology. It is designed to pioneer automatic recognition in areas that until now were considered to be off limits for automatic data capturing, such as historical documents or medical records.

At PostExpo we hope to meet visitors from the postal and parcel industry that will present us with extraordinary recognition challenges that seem to be outside the scope of automatic data capturing. Come by and challenge us!

Planet IS wins the Handwritten Text Recognition contest during the ICFHR in Valencia - 2014

Powered by Planet is GmbH technology the CITlab Team from the Rostocker University in Germany took part in this years competition during the ICFHR conference in Valencia Spain. Basis for the competition were documents handwritten by the renowned English philosopher and reformer Jeremy Bentham. In the restricted track, in which the CITlab team took part, just the data provided by the organizers was allowed for training and tuning of the systems. The system used by the Rostocker team with its specialized learning algorithms provided the best results and the lowest error rate. With its newest version of its pattern recognition system Planet has reached a level that can almost rival the human capabilities.

In the field of text recognition especially handwritten, Planet has a long tradition of being an industry leader. Founded in 1992 in Schwerin Germany, Planet has been developing Artificial Intelligence systems on the basis of Recurrent Neural Networks and is known by its customers for providing cutting edge technology for the logistics, mailing, security and document analysis industries.

PLANET IS, is exhibiting at Cebit from March 10 to 14, 2014.

Visit our stand to see latest technologies for postal automation and also automatic number plate recognition.

Market introduction of the latest technologies in the field of intelligent text recognition ...

especially a leading state of the art technology for script and handwriting recognition.

The PLANET IS, took part in a highly publicized recognition competition (Open Hart).

This required full text recognition of handwritten Arabic texts (copies of newspaper articles). PLANET IS won 2nd place out of 9 participants.
